Why Young People
and Rural Women
About 19% of all children globally (roughly 1 in 5) live in extreme monetary poverty.
That equals approximately 412 million children (age 0–17) living on less than about $3 per day.
Globally, about 900 million children experience multidimensional poverty (lack of basic needs such as food, water, education, and healthcare).
Of the 412 million children living in extreme monetary poverty, the vast majority are concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
In fact, Sub-Saharan Africa alone accounts for roughly 300+ million children in extreme poverty (about three-quarters of the global total).
